What kind of broadband connection works with a TiVo media device?

The TiVo media device needs a broadband internet connection to access the TiVo service and make use of features such as the Electronic Program Guide. Without a connection to broadband Internet the TiVo media device will not function correctly. Common home broadband connection types that will work with the TiVo DVR include:

  • ADSL and ADSL2
  • Cable
  • Wireless
  • Satellite Internet

Dial-up modems will not work with the TiVo media device. Mobile wireless broadband (access broadband while you are on the move) is not recommended for use with the TiVo media device.

How fast does my connection need to be?

To receive your Electronic Program Guide (EPG) information and software updates you are fine with as little as 256 kilobytes per second (kbps). However, because we are growing our broadband services you may consider increasing your speed to get the most from your TiVo experience.
